Intuitive Still Life Art Class

One of my all-time fave techniques to use in my own Artworks is blind contour drawing. This a process where you look at an object carefully and draw without looking at the page. So fun and intuitive! Naturally, I've been looking forward to sharing it with my little Intuitive Art students!

After a meditation using our senses with an array of natural items on the table such as shells, plants and seed-pods, we started by looking at my nature sketch book for inspiration. Each of us chose a natural object to feel, smell and look at carefully to notice its intricacies.

The children spent a whole song-length to draw their object using the blind contour technique; which helps Artists to fine-tune their drawing techniques by capturing what we truly see, not just what our mind thinks it should look like. After each song, we moved around the table to get a view of a new natural item/different perspective and practiced drawing with various prompts such as smaller, larger, turning our pages upside down and drawing with our left hand! Some of the kids even drew each other from across the table - cool idea!

Afterwards, we spent the rest of the lesson using watercolours and metallic acrylic paints to intuitively fill in shapes and spaces on our page.

What a fun and freeing process today's class was! I think these would look lovely in a colourful IKEA frame!

All my Love,
