Why is Art Good for the Soul?

New artwork: ‘Evolution’ by Chrissy Foreman, 2023. Handmade earth paint, ink and paint pen on watercolour paper.

Art-making has always been a soulful experience for me. There’s something essentially transformative that occurs by collaborating with the joyful unfolding between paint, imagination, images and colour.

As someone who has lifelong experience living with anxiety and ADHD, creativity is a tool I’ve turned to again and again to regulate emotions, express ideas (big and small), and generally embrace the process of enjoying a meaningful life.

For both me and my wonderful clients, art-making is a naturally therapeutic tool for realignment.

Furthermore, there’s something magical about art that has the capacity to bring our Soul / Spirit / Life force into resonance with our body.

When we engage with colours, imagery, objects and forms we resonate with, it’s an easy route to enjoyment. Creativity, whether it be drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, dancing or singing, often incorporates doing what we love and enjoy.

And experiencing more joyful experiences, helps tell our nervous system know that we are safe and all is well in this moment.

Art-making truly is a beautiful way to service our Soul.
