How to Make Eco-Friendly Paints with Floral Tea!

handmade paints with tea

Hi Beauty!

This week in our Calm Creative Kids classes, we’ve been making our own paints, using floral teas!

It is a wonderfully interactive and experiential way to learn about colour theory and mixing colours.

Here’s how to make watercolour paint from Floral tea

  1. Gather your floral tea

I choose to use the following organic teas from tealife.com.au

💙 Blue Peaflower Tea for blue

💛 Safflower Tea for yellow

❤️ Hibiscus Tea for red

2. Put a good pinch of each tea into a small container

3. Add Hot water and stir

By carefully adding a small amount of hot water to the teas with pipettes, kids love to watch the colours emerge! We use the red, blue and yellow inky paints (primary colours) and explored making secondary and tertiary colours like purple, green, blue range, teal, magenta and more.

All the fun and discoveries!

4. Use brushes or pipettes to drip and mix paints

We found working on paper towel really holds the colours well. This activity feels like a mixture of inspirational creativity and science combined. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Got a creative child who loves Making art?

I have a couple of spots left in this term’s Calm Creative Kids art classes at our Artscool Clontarf Studio. We’d love to have your creative child join us! 🌈❤️💙💛💜🧡💚
